General b-side Questions

b-side is a new online marketplace for independent films. In plain English, it's a website designed for filmmakers to sell DVDs and digital downloads of their films directly to people who are looking for great independent movies.

We have spent the last two years building online communities for IFC and more than 50 independent film festivals. After spending all that time marketing independent films to festival audiences, we learned a lot about how to connect filmmakers and film fans.

From that experience, we found that the best way to help people discover new films is 1) let the films speak for themselves through video excerpts (trailers, selected scenes, etc), and 2) make it easy for people to share their thoughts and recommend films to eachother.

The third part we've added into the mix is making it easy for people to try out a film before spending $15 on a DVD. All of our films are available as DRM-free digital downloads, and the price of the download is a down payment on a DVD. That means if you buy the $2.99 iPod download and love the movie, you can buy the full DVD for $2.99 off. DRM-free means that you can play the movie anywhere, or burn it to a DVD yourself.
