Upcoming Fests – Silk Screen, Little Rock, plus more

The Fourth Annual Silk Screen Asian American Film Festival takes place May 8 – 17, 2009 in Pittsburgh, PA. Celebrating diversity and multi-cultural appreciation of the Asian and Asian American experience, the festival seeks to educate the community regarding Asian history, culture, experiences and issues. Some of the festival’s highlights this year include Chaturanga, an adaptation of Nobel Prize winner Rabindranath Tagore’s novel about a man’s struggle between his ideals and love interests, My Dear Enemy, a subtle romance featuring popular South Korean actors Jeon Do-yeon and Ha Jung-woo, and Sita Sings the Blues, an animated retelling of the classic Indian myth, the Ramayana. This year’s Silk Screen promises to be an entertaining and enlightening look into Asian culture and cinema. Check out the schedule online.

Little Rock Film Festival (May 13-17): The festival kicks off with That Evening Sun, about an elderly man who escapes a nursing home to take back his property from its new tenants. Other films at the festival include Living Dark: The Story of Ted the Caver, based on an urban legend about two spelunking brothers and their repeated visits to a supernatural cave, and King of the Road, where five truckers are forced to compete in a reality show featuring a $200,000 grand prize.
