Film collateral for bside.com
The key to bside.com is engaging visitors to explore your film. The first part of this engagement will come from the community itself through recommendations. The rest will be based on the quality of content on your film’s page.
The collateral you provide is made of two parts:
- Information about your film, such as synopsis, cast and crew, awards, etc.
- Rich media, including video clips and still images.
Once you have registered, you can fill in the information on your film on your Filmmmaker Profile page.
Upload Instructions
Video and still images can be uploaded to bside.com, and we will handle the conversion for you.
To upload video and images, please visit the following site: https://bside.strongspace.com/browser/files. Log in as:
Login: filmmaker
Password: theotherside
Note: this is a shared account for filmmakers of bside.com. Please do not change the username or password.
You may upload everything to this folder. If you cannot find your film’s folder, feel free to create it by clicking ‘create a new directory.’
If you prefer, you can send rich media to us by burning a data DVD with the images and video clips. Please send to the address above.
Images
You may upload as many images as you want. We’ll create a slideshow out of them on your film’s page.
One unique aspect of the design of bside.com is that all images are displayed in a widescreen 16×9 aspect ratio. This provides a distinctive cinematic look and feel to the entire community. If you provide images that are not cropped to 16×9, we will crop them for you. However, if you want to have complete control over the layout, we suggest you crop them yourself.
NOTE: Please indicate to us which of your images you would like as the default image by including ‘_default’ in the file name (e.g., ‘myfilm_pic1_default.jpg’). If you do not select a default image, we will choose one for you. Don’t worry, we can always change it later.
Images can be uploaded in most common formats, including JPG, GIF, PNG, and TIFF. The higher resolution images you upload, the better they will look on your film’s page. If you prefer to crop images yourself, please crop them to 16×9 ratio, with at least 640×360 resolution (larger is better).
Video Clips
The most important element of bside.com is your video clips. You may give us as many as you like (trailers, podcasts, special clips, behind the scenes footage, shorts you’ve made, etc.). The more the better.
bside.com is built around the idea of watching and sharing video clips. They appear on your film’s page, as well as on personalized video feeds which spread virally around the community. If members love your video clip and recommend it, it will continue to be recommended to other visitors. The most recommended videos will be featured on the bside.com home page, in featured video lists, emails to members, etc.
Please use the following guidelines when submitting your video clips:
- Video Encoding: for best results, encode video as MPEG-2 or MPEG-4 files at a bitrate of at least 400kbps, but not greater than 2000kbps.
- Video Formatting: for best results, format with 16:9 aspect ratio with at least 720×405 resolution. 4:3 aspect ratio with at least 640×480 resolution is acceptable, which we will letterbox for our 16:9 video player.
- Audio Encoding: PCM, MP3 and AAC are all acceptable.
Please do not send WMV encoded video clips.
If you have any questions regarding these instructions, or need any assistance of any kind, please email help@bside.com.
